Jan Way was born an artist. As a young child, she was drawn to the challenge of capturing her view of the world on paper. She became enthralled with the art of the portrait, and in High school, she began to win awards and sell portrait sketches. Her first job was with a professional photographer who introduced her to the techniques of photographic retouching. Jan had a very successful career in the field of photographic retouching. She enhanced, airbrushed, and restored photographs for over twenty years. She worked with studios and photographic labs before going into business for herself as a freelancer in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. She has received numerous awards as a retouch artist and taught her craft around the country. In 1985, she authored the book titled Retouching Your Photographs published by Amphoto Publications. It became one of the best selling books on the subject. In 2006, Jan returned to her original passion- that of creating art. She began to paint oil portraits on canvas. A newcomer to this facet of the art world, Jan has already won several awards and been named artist of the month with the Trinity Arts Guild. She is currently painting commissioned work through her studio located in Hurst, Texas.
